Are humans meant to mate for life?

After four kids and an unfortunate but fateful end to her twenty-two-year marriage, Elsie Smith meets the new guy in town.

Kael Hendricks is … a little younger, a lot sexy, and too confident for his own good. He also doesn’t believe in marriage and all that goes with it.

And …

He’s just opened a new business that threatens the livelihood of Elsie’s family’s store—just in time for the holidays.

The problem?

There’s an undeniable attraction that leads to out of control situations, a loss of inhibitions, and a lot of small town gossip.

As Elsie tries to redefine herself and convince her family she isn’t having a midlife crisis, she’s forced to answer the biggest question of all …

Can she love an enemy who will never surrender?

I told myself to savor this book because let’s face it, an endless supply of this authors books would never be enough but within the first few pages she knocked me right of my damn chair. A pivotal plot twist, needed but holy crap I did not see it coming.

I loved every single second of this book. It is a true testament to the strength of women because more of us are not in prison for killing our husband because of their incessant annoying habits. Women are not flawless….dear God could you image….but men aren’t wired to fester on our quirks as we are with them. It’s a true battle of the sexes.

So for every woman who has ever dreamed of diving across the table to strangle their husband with their bra…Not What I Expected is the book for you.

WITCHY’S 5 STAR REVIEW

Every nagging wifely nitpick hit home and made me LOL.

At less than 6 percent read my jaw hit the floor. I mean holy crap Jewel really went there and I wobbled on my chair. Didn’t see it coming but I felt it in my bones.

All lengthy marriages have those times where you want to crawl across the table and strangle your significant other with your bra. Not gonna lie I’ve considered it daily sometimes especially when PMS and early menopause is making me crazy but life without my husband hurts too much to think about.

Elsie has lost that loving feeling. She’s reached the threshold of her annoyance and one morning the final straw dropped and broke her load bearing back.

This is a story of new beginnings when you should be moving in to the next chapter after a life of raising kids. It’s poignant, funny and despite telling myself to slow down, I couldn’t devour it fast enough.

Kael is what women my age dream about while the Husbot snores next to me. Only for Elsie he’s live and in technicolor.

Starting over at 42 is terrifying and Elsie hits all the potholes along the way and I’m so glad I got to go on the journey with her.

A superb read with an unconventional HEA and Jewel E Ann gives voice to what lives inside a wife’s head but we’re all too content to say for fear our own HEA might blow up in our faces.

I think it’s books like these and other great romance reads that provide us an escape and are the reason so many husbands are still married and not buried in our crawl spaces for all their annoying habits. 🙂
